Upcoming Moies of 2011
Mission: Impossible IV
Not much is known about this third, and possibly final sequel to Ethan Hunt’s fast paced life. We’re not even sure if Tom Cruise will be playing Hunt. Will Ethan even be the main character, or will headquarters segue into the missions of a new, younger agent? Unfortunately, directors and cast have left this to remain quite a mystery. Anyone up for spying it out? Potential cast: Tom Cruise, Ving Rames
The Avengers
How many superheroes can we fit in one movie? The director of The Avengers seems to be going for a record. It appears to be that we will have Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, War Machine, Loki and Bruce Banner…phew! I think I’m done. Now the question is, will they be working together—or will we have the bad guys and the good guys warring against each other as they so often do? Hmm…nobody’s managed to leak the plot yet. But we do have a good cast lined up, consisting of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Tom Hiddleston, Louis Ferrigno, Scarlett Johansson, and, hopefully, EdwardNorton and JeremyRenner.
Batman: The Untitled Project
It has such a nice ring to it, don’t you think? But I’m betting that it’s title has something to do with Arkham Asylum. The encouraging part is that it looks like Christian Bale is in the running for the longest running Bruce Wayne. Three is a record! And we also have the same butler, which we all love, Michael Cain. Also appearing with Bale will be and Gary Oldman, who is now the Commissioner. The villain has yet to rise…
Rambo V: The Savage Hunt
No, Stallone isn’t too old to head into the great unknown arctic…not when he’s up against Mickey Rourke—! It appears to be that this project is some sort of adaptation of the book Hunter by James Byron Huggins. The movie will venture into the sci-fi (eek?) realm of things, with Rambo and his young friend going up against a hugely intelligent wolf-creature which is the result of a DNA experiment gone awry. *sigh* Typical plot, maybe? Maybe not. The Special Forces will help Rambo and Beau to fight off this illegal, and seemingly immortal creature.
Sherlock Holmes II
After the unexpected success of the movie centered on the world’s favorite, most easily misunderstood consulting detective; director Guy Richie was eager to start on the sequel. With Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law already committed to assume their previous roles, we have found that there will be a new edition—Brad Pitt—as Holmes’s adversary. Professor Moriarty, who Holmes himself titled the ‘Napoleon of Crime’, is widely considered to be the world’s first example of a super villain. Moriarty shows up most memorably in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Final Problem. Well, here’s my first problem. Will Sherlock Holmes II be the only sequel to this brilliant series? According to the story, both Moriarty and Holmes fall to their deaths while battling atop Reichenbach Falls. Gulp. While Gerard Butler has managed to keep his successful career despite the fact that at least three of his characters have died; I’m not sure what the death of Sherlock Holmes would do to RDJ’s seemingly luminous acting future. My second problem…is Holmes really that unintuitive? All these years of dodging skull shattering blows; and he allows himself to be locked into a struggle which he cannot escape? Or did Holmes fake his death to protect Watson, as financial problems forced Doyle to rewrite his tales? I have a hard time determining which plot Richie will choose…so I guess I’ll just have to have patience. Elementary; I know.
Wolverine 2
Here we have it right from the horse’s mouth. No offense, Hugh. Jackman, the star who plays one of the all-time favorite X-Men characters ‘Wolverine’ has confirmed, and teased, that there will be a sequel to X:Men Origins—Wolverine. The ‘all brawn and no brain’ Logan is ready to head East in search of philosophy—the philosophy of fight. All set to learn martial arts and whatever else he can glean—after all, Logan has as much time as he needs—and we should have our sequel. Jackman says that he has longed to make this saga of the Wolverine story from the beginning. So he’s getting his wish; we’re getting ours.
Battle Los Angeles
A Marine commander is forced to rescue major sections of Los Angeles when a surprise attack of aliens hits the city. This movie is a modern, sci-fi take on the story of the potentially true events which happened on February 25, 1942, when a large scale anti-aircraft artillery salvo was set up to defend against unidentified targets which remain “unidentified” to this day. Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Pena
Dark Shadows
We all know that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are a wonderful director/actor pair. So it comes as no surprise to find that Tim Burton will be directing an adaptation of the 1980′s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. The meager plot is as follows: a governess visits the Collins mansion, only to find out that everything is never as it seems, and Barnabas Collins is a vampire. But knowing Burton, who directed such admired atrocities as Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and the hit Alice in Wonderland, both starring Johnny Depp, I’m figuring that there will be much more to the plot as time goes by—and that the movie will leave not much to be desired…except for maybe, a nightlight. Cast: Johnny Depp(confirmed)
Transformers 3
Many rumors have been flying about regarding a third installment to our favorite robotic otherworld. As director Michael Bay has been scouting Chicago and Detroit for this movie, he also revealed a few plot potentials: there may not be as many explosions, and fewer robots, for example. And perhaps the loose-trapped, not so popular anymore Mikaela Banes might be terminated. As Bay is considerably tired of Megan Fox’s shenanigans which make cast and crew look bad in the media world, it is quite possible that Bay’s promised ‘twist in the plot’ will consist of Ms. Banes meeting her demise in the first few gory scenes of the movie. She would then of course be replaced by another gorgeous, slightly humbler Witwicky interest. Good riddance? I think yes. Cast: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gibson
Keep a watch out for these movies because hollywood never stops….
